What is A Broken Winter? A Broken Winter is an online manga-influenced graphic novel. It is written and created by

. A Broken Winter takes place on a planet outside of our solar system, centuries after Earth has been abandoned. It follows the story of a young boy, Kokkan. As the son of revolutionary parents, Kokkan is branded a political threat. He's captured in a raid meant to target his father, and sentenced to death. His life is spared by a General who sees a similarity between the boy and his deceased son, confining Kokkan to a life of servitude at Irihi - the slaughterhouse.
The illustration used in this contest reflects what Kokkan's life at Irihi is like.

Details This is the first official A Broken Winter contest.
, the official artist for A Broken Winter has provided the illustration which this contest will revolve around. It can be found here: [link]This is a colouring contest. Simply download the illustration and colour it. Entries will be judged on the basis of several things.
Accuracy: In respect to accuracy, the only thing you need to concern yourself with is Kokkan's appearance. Kokkan has sandy blond hair and blue eyes. His uniform is grey. A colour reference can be found here: [link] Creativity: There is no restrictions on the medium or style of colouring you can use for your entry. Effort: This is the amount of time and (hopefully) hard work you've put into your entry. You may enter as many times as you like.
Qualifying In order for your entry to qualify, you must do the following:

All winning entries will be featured on abrokenwinter.com – with full credit given to the artists, of course. DeviantArt accounts belonging to the winners will be posted.
1st place - $100 USD (transferable only via PayPal) or a Wacom Intuos3 4x6 inch tablet or a $100 gift certificate from Amazon.com. The winner will also be featured on Archie's journal and receive a realistic headshot digital painting of their choice. 2nd place - $50 USD (transferable only via PayPal) or a Wacom Bamboo tablet (small) or a $50 gift certificate from Amazon.com. 3rd place - $20 USD (transferable only via PayPal) or a $20 gift certificate from Amazon.com. In order to qualify for these prizes, all of the above listed qualifying elements must be met. Your entry must also be received before the cut-off date.
Contest Duration This contest will formally close on May 31, 2010. This gives everyone (even those of you swamped with commissions and school-related things) time to put together an entry.
